Ever wondered how a theatre works or wanted to know exactly what is involved in making a production come to life? Our Open Day is the perfect way to find out.

We are opening The REP’s backstage doors, allowing you to take a glimpse behind the scenes of Birmingham’s premier producing theatre.

Throughout the building there will be fun activities and workshops for all ages.

The Open Day runs from 10am to 5pm.

What’s happening behind the scenes?
You can explore the set for The Rotters’ Club, as well as discovering other exciting areas behind the scenes, including our workshop and paintshop. Backstage Tours will be taking place from 10am to 2pm.

What’s happening in the foyer?
We welcome back Bhangra Tots, as well as a new interactive music experience, Dooville for the young children. With pop up performances from Standing Ovation choir, ’70s style face painting, the chance to dress up, create folk instruments out of recycled material and folk music throughout the day, there is plenty for everyone to enjoy.

What’s happening in The SUITES?
Archive Talks will be taking place at 11am and 2pm, exploring the world of Barry Jackson, design and innovation and women in theatre. Our programme of Live Lunch readings continue at 12.30pm and Beatfreeks will be running a spoken word workshop between 2pm and 4pm. You can also hear Jonathan Coe and Richard Cameron speak about The Rotters’ Club from 6.30pm.

What’s happening in The DOOR?
Try your hand at playwriting with our WriteAway Workshop from 10am to 12pm, or join inventive company Filter for their Workshop on integrating music in performance – perfect for those aged 11+, from 12.30pm to 2pm. From 2.30pm to 3.30pm there will be a sharing of Pakistani director, Shahid Nadeem’s work and from 5pm to 8pm there will be a screening of his play Dara, which played at the National Theatre in 2015 (followed by a panel discussion).

What’s happening in Marmalade?
Children under 10 can enjoy 2 courses for £7 in Marmalade, plus a free smoothie and for the adults, happy hour has been extended for one day only!
